High-Power Microwave Generation Using A Ferroelectric Cathode Electron Gun
A two-stage 500 kV 200-A ferroelectric electron gun has been designed, fabricated, tested, and used in a high power microwave amplifier experiment. We report on the operational characteristics of the gun including measurements of the beam dynamics. The optimum conditions for application of the trigger and its timing are also reported. Faraday cup measurement shows that the beam radius is 4.1 mm...
متن کاملProposal for Hollow Cathode Electron Gun for Electron Cooling*
If we put a voltage between the magnetic shunt and two conducting plates perpendicular to the z-axis in a symmetric fashion, we would obtain the same shape of the electric field, because both E and B may be derived as gradient of a potential. We propose to explore this simple physical system, in which E and B are everywhere parallel, to obtain low temperature, magnetically confined electron beams.
متن کاملA new large area lanthanum hexaboride plasma source.
A new 18x18 cm(2) active area lanthanum hexaboride (LaB(6)) plasma source for use in a dc discharge has been developed at UCLA. The cathode consists of four tiled LaB(6) pieces indirectly heated to electron emission (1750 degrees C) by a graphite heater. A molybdenum mesh anode 33 cm in front of the LaB(6) accelerates the electrons, ionizing a fill gas to create a 20x20 cm(2) nearly square plas...
متن کاملHigh-performance field-emission electron gun using a reticulated vitreous carbon cathode
Proof-of-concept experimental results stemming from beam simulations for a microfocus electron gun are presented. The simulations demonstrate the potential to produce 4 mA of current through a 40m-diameter spot, at an energy of 30 keV, emitted from a 1-mm-diameter cathode with low energy spread and high brightness. The experimental realization, scaled down for practicality, but consistent with ...
متن کاملA Hybrid Laser-driven E-beam Injector Using Photo-cathode Electron Gun and superconducting Cavity
A laser-driven photo-cathode electron gun capable of producing pulsed electron beams of 100 KeV with a duration of 35 ps was constructed as a continuing effort towards a high-brightness superconducting RF injector. Various species of photo-cathodes can be obtained either by ion implantation, CVD or ion enhanced deposition in the preparation chamber attached to the injector. A number of photo-ca...
